HETAS certified chimney sweep. £100 — sweep, smoke draw test and HETAS certificate issued on the day.
Chigwell and Hainault are at the western edge of our territory, on the Essex side of the Greater London boundary. Chigwell, in particular, has a high proportion of large detached houses where wood burning stoves are common and where homeowners are accustomed to looking for credentialled tradespeople. Hainault has a different character — largely post-war housing with a mix of original fireplaces and fitted stoves.
We cover Chigwell, Grange Hill, Hainault and surrounding streets. Chadwell Heath is also within our area — see our Chadwell Heath page.
Every sweep includes the full brush clean, smoke draw test, and HETAS certificate issued before we leave. The certificate is accepted by home insurers as proof of professional sweeping.
HETAS sweep registration is described in different ways — HETAS approved, HETAS registered, and HETAS certified are all terms used for sweeps trained and registered under the HETAS Sweep and Service Scheme. Whatever term brought you here, the credential is the same. You can verify it on HETAS.co.uk.

Chigwell regularly brings larger open fireplaces — some inglenook style — alongside fitted stoves. Hainault tends toward smaller post-war properties where the original fireplace has been either retained or recommissioned in recent years after a period of non-use. Across both areas, pre-season bookings are common — the stove or fire has been unused since spring and needs clearing and certifying before the first use of autumn.
Pre-winter booking is the most common reason customers contact us across both Chigwell and Hainault. The appliance has sat unused through spring and summer. Before it is lit for the first time in September or October it needs sweeping — not because it has been used, but because unused flues accumulate debris and bird activity over a summer more readily than you might expect. A sweep, smoke draw test and certificate before first use is the right routine. It takes under ninety minutes and the certificate is ready before we leave. A HETAS registered sweep follows the same pre-season routine — the process and the certificate are identical under the scheme.
HETAS recommends sweeping at least twice a year when burning wood, and at least once a year for smokeless fuel. Best time: just before the heating season starts.
I have a large open fireplace in Chigwell — possibly an inglenook. Can you sweep it?
Yes. Inglenook and larger open fireplaces are swept in the same way as standard open fires — brush through the full flue length, smoke draw test confirming the draw, certificate issued on completion. £100. If the opening is unusually large or the flue arrangement is complex, call us first and describe it.
My stove in Hainault has not been used for two years. Do I need anything special before using it again?
A Level 1 sweep is the right starting point. An unused flue can accumulate debris and bird nesting material. The sweep clears it, the smoke draw test confirms the draw, and the certificate documents it is ready to use. If there are concerns about the flue condition after that extended a period, a Level 2 gives a fuller picture including smoke leakage testing.
